Sophomore Johnson Selected Region 20 DII February Athlete of the Month

Cecil College's sophomore guard Darell Johnson was selected as the NJCAA Region 20 Division II Men's Basketball player of the month for the month of January 2022. Players of the Month are selected at the month's end by a committee of Sports Information Directors from around Region 20.

Johnson had a stellar month for the Seahawks while helping his team to a near perfect 7-1 record during the month of January while starting all eight contests and averaging 24.7 minutes per game. The team's lone loss came from NJCAA Division I ranked opponent, Harcum College. The Seahawks achieved a national ranking as a high as 6th in the NJCAA Division II Men's Basketball National Poll for the week of February 22.

During those seven games, Johnson averaged 15.6 points per game while shooting 51.7% from the floor. On the defensive end, he was second on the team with 7.4 rebounds per game. He recorded a double-double in five of eight games during the month and a career-high 27 points against #4 Chesapeake and tied that high against Dundalk three games later.
