NORTH EAST - Cecil College softball faced off against Division 1 opponent Harford on Monday afternoon, taking the first game of the day before dropping game two.
The Seahawks are now 13-11 on the season.
Game One - Cecil 2, Harford 1
Layla Hopkins' home run was just enough for Cecil in the opener, as the Seahawks held on to defeat the Fighting Owls.
Hopkins first collegiate home run could not have come at a better time for Cecil. With both teams scoreless through three, the freshman outfielder took a ball over the center field wall to drive home Tristan Canavan.
Gianna Dougherty fought through five Seahawk errors to keep Cecil's lead afloat. Harford finally broke through in the seventh after three defensive miscues and a fielder's choice led to one run scoring. However, a great relay throw from the outfield knocked out the tying run before Dougherty (9-4) took down one more Harford batter via strikeout to pull Cecil to victory.
Game Two - Harford 4, Cecil 1
Cecil continued to struggle at the dish, scoring just one run on four hits before eventually falling in the closing contest.
Briana Rebman's solo shot in the sixth provided Cecil's only run of the game. Madison Nolan led the team with two hits, while Natalie Cook chipped in one.
Amaia Smith (4-6) allowed just one earned run but took the loss from the rubber.
