Cecil Softball Region 20 Tournament Preview
NORTH EAST, Md. - The Cecil softball team heads to Keyser, W.V. May 8-10 for the Region 20 Division 2 Tournament. The Seahawks, serving as the No. 2 seed, will take on No. 3 seed Southern Maryland at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
Potomac State is the tournament host and the No. 1 seed. The Catamounts face No. 5 seed CCBC-Catonsville after the Cardinals upset No. 4 Howard in the quarterfinals.
Game Notes
- Cecil (20-10) defeated No. 7 Hagerstown, 11-3 and 17-3, in the quarterfinals to advance
- The Seahawks split their doubleheader at Southern Maryland back on March 14, losing the first game 4-3 before bouncing back and winning game two, 7-1
- Head Coach Isabella Bungo makes her first R20 tournament appearance after being hired back in July of 2025
- Taylor Stapleford (14-2, 2.01 ERA) and Taja Souza (6-5, 4.93 ERA) headline the Seahawks pitching staff, which boasts the most strikeouts (242) in the region
- Souza (.408 AVG) also features in the outfield and tops the Seahawks with 15 stolen bases
- Kylee Bergman (.458 AVG) leads Cecil's offense in home runs (seven) and RBI (40)
- As a unit, the Seahawks hold a .361 batting average, with a .450 on-base percentage, and a .513 slugging percentage
