Cecil Softball NJCAA D2 World Series Preview
NORTH EAST, Md. - Cecil softball heads to Spartanburg, S.C. for the NJCAA Division 2 World Series from May 19-24.
The NJCAA awarded the Seahawks the No. 20 seed and an opening round matchup with No. 13 Northwest Mississippi. Cecil and the Rangers square off on May 19 at 11 a.m., with the winner taking on No. 4 seed Rock Valley at 4 p.m. The loser moves to the bottom bracket and plays on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in an elimination game.
Game Notes - Cecil
- Cecil (23-10) won the Region 20 D2 Championship for an automatic bid into the World Series.
- Head Coach Isabella Bungo makes her first World Series appearance after being hired back in July of 2025
- Taylor Stapleford (17-2, 2.06 ERA) and Taja Souza (6-5, 5.02 ERA) headline the Seahawks pitching staff, which tossed 273 strikeouts this season
- Kylee Bergman (.472 AVG) leads Cecil's offense in home runs (eight) and RBI (52)
- As a unit, the Seahawks hold a .354 batting average, with a .440 on-base percentage, and a .511 slugging percentage
Game Notes - Northwest Mississippi
- Northwest Mississippi (27-19) received one of four at-large bids to get into the World Series
- The Rangers are led by Chelsea Bramlett (7th season)
- Northwest's pitching staff, led by Meredith Dearman (19-7, 3.02 ERA) posted a 3.91 ERA and 238 strikeouts
- Ava Claire Rhoden (.435 AVG) and Hadley McAtee (.405 AVG) lead the Rangers on offense
- Northwest's offense posted a .334 batting average, a .389 on-base percentange, and a .449 slugging percentage
