NORTH EAST, Md. - Cecil baseball held off a late push to defeat the CCBC-Catonsville Cardinals 16-11 on Thursday afternoon.
The two teams combined to score 27 runs off of 37 hits and 15 walks. The Seahawks plated all but one run over the first five frames, including six in the second and third. Catonsville scored five runs in the first three inning, but were two outs away from a mercy rule defeat. A two-run blast later that inning insured the game would continue.
Cody Kunca led all the Seahawks with three hits. Mason Richter homered and doubled. Braydon Janzer and Zach VanDyke both went deep as well. VanDyke and Jevin Seifert topped the team with three RBI each.
Cecil used a half-dozen pitchers to get across the finish line. Ty Whittaker (4-2) took the win with a quality inning out of the pen. Starter Chris Woods went four frames, striking out two. Pat Callahan kept the Cardinals off the board in the sixth.
